Durable Medical Equipment includes wheelchairs, walkers, oxygen equipment, hospital beds, lift chairs, and other such items vital in promoting independence. With a physician?s prescription, some equipment may be covered by Medicare or private-pay insurance. Smaller assistive equipment ? walker trays, comb extenders, jar openers, reachers ? help promote independence, but are often not covered by insurance. There are a number of equipment providers in the Broome County area.
