The social adult day programs provide seven hours a day of stimulating activities and peer socialization for frail, isolated individuals. The program assists functionally-impaired seniors maintain their maximum level of independence through meaningful, productive leisure activities.

Provides spiritually sensitive counseling, consultation and education for people of all ages, couples, groups and families on a variety of mental health issues. Samaritan counselors are clinically trained professionals with masters and/or doctoral degrees in counseling and psychotherapy. Accepts most insurance plans, sliding scale for persons with low income or no insurance.

Full-service university in the State University of New York system. Admissions office advises students and prospective students on opportunities in the SUNY system, and where possible, other universities. Older Adults Program, through Academic Advising (777- 6305, until 4 p.m.), allows persons age 60 and older to audit courses free of charge.

Provides a broad range of programs and services for people with the disease, their families and caregivers, as well as professional care providers. Services include a Helpline offering 24-hour/7days a week support, care consultations, support groups, educational and training services and the Safe Return Program for wanderers.

Individuals, couples or families experiencing difficulties such as depression or anxiety, or problems associated with issues of aging or caregiving, meet with our geriatric social workers either at the office or in the client's home. Group therapy is available as needed. Our certified social workers also supervise Senior Peer Counseling, an adjunct service. Medicare and other insurance is accepted for this Elder Counseling Program.

Provides unpaid family caregivers with a chance to get a personal break and to safeguard their physical and mental health so they can continue providing care. Two types of respite care are available: In-Home Respite and Facility Respite. With In-home Respite, a trained professional personal care aide can come and stay with the elder in his/her home for approximately four hours per week. Facility Respite arranges a three day stay in a nursing facility or appropriate senior residence. Also see Long-Term Care section for a listing of nursing facilities which provide Respite. Admission to both options of the Caregiver Respite Program begins with an assessment by the In-Home Services Unit of the Office for Aging. Also see Caregiver Services: Adult Day Care section.

Provides telephone counseling for unpaid caregivers of the frail elderly living in the community. Provides support groups, workshops, newsletter (Caregiver Corner), referrals, and information about services. Home visits when necessary.

It provides information, tips, advice, and sharing for people who are concerned about the health, safety, and well-being of an older person. You can sign up to be a member and get advice from others who are in the same boat.
