Provides information on long-term care for persons of any age in need of home or nursing home care. Seeks to assure appropriate use of all available services to maintain people at optimum levels of functioning and independence. Care planning, information on purchasing long-term care services, case management, nursing home evaluation, in-home services (EISEP) coordination, and nursing home to community assessments. Free assessment available.

EISEP is a community-based, non-medical program sponsored by the Office for Aging. It provides ongoing case management and home care services to older adults, incorporating a cost-sharing feature based on a client's income and housing expenses. A comprehensive independent assessment by a case manager and community health nurse will determine the clients' need and ability to pay. Any Broome County resident, 60 or over, experiencing difficulty with activities of daily life (dressing, bathing, meal preparation, eating, shopping, laundry or housework) is eligible. Referrals are screened by Community Alternative Systems Agency (CASA).

Emergency Call Buttons


Personal Emergency Response Systems provide access to emergency assistance including life support at the touch of a button. Most services are fee-based; however, Radio Shack stores do offer a do-it-yourself system called the Emergency Phone Dialer with no monthly service fee. The installer must program in the appropriate emergency phone numbers including 24-hour dispatcher services.

Interim In-Touch is a 24 hours/day, two-way communication service that allows clients immediate conversation with a trained attendant. Serves as an emergency response service, and helps provide security and independence to those living alone.

Home Emergency Alarm Response (HEAR) provides both voice and non-voice personal emergency response. Operators receive emergency signal sent by lightweight personal activator worn by person as a pendant or wristband. Operator dispatches responder or ambulance to help client.

The Faith in Action Volunteers provides a network of volunteers recruited from various congregations to assist the frail, elderly, and disabled with daily activities, helping to maintain independence.
