Corporate Angel Network, a nonprofit organization, provides free plane transportation for cancer patients going to/from recognized cancer hospitals by using empty seats aboard corporate aircraft operating on business flights. Service is available to cancer patients of all ages who are ambulatory, in stable condition, and require no life support or IVs. If space is available, companion may accompany patient.

Medical Transportation


Non-emergency medical transportation, sometimes referred to as Ambulette Service provides fee-based door-to-door service when full ambulance/emergency service is not necessary and curb-to-curb transportation (e.g. - BC Lift, taxi) is not adequate for the situation. Additionally offers special needs assistance, especially for persons with mobility issues. For a list of providers, please refer to the telephone directory Yellow Pages under Ambulette Services.

County residents who live in rural areas of the county who wish to travel to the urban areas within Broome County. Buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts. Length of trip varies with number of passengers. Reservations required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Regular fare $2 each way; $1 for seniors. No service on January 1, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas.

Provides transportation services to seniors on a contribution basis with Office for Aging Senior ID card. Services provide wheelchair lifts and curb-to-curb transportation throughout BC Transit urbanized area. Suggested donation of $1.00. Eligibility: Broome County residents 60 and over. Reservations required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. No service on January 1, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, or Christmas. To apply, call 778-2411.

Scheduled bus service routes available throughout the Broome metropolitan area. Route information and bus schedules available at transfer station locations, public libraries, and various agencies serving seniors. All buses are wheelchair accessible. Senior Discount Program provides off-peak BC Transit bus transportation services at a discount to seniors with an Office for Aging Senior Bus ID 65+ card (pink). Off-peak travel hours are: 9:15a.m.-3:15p.m. and after 6p.m. on Mon. - Fri.; and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Call Office for Aging at 778-2411 to apply for a card; proof of age required. Discounts on Monthly Bus Passes are also available to seniors with this card. Call 778-1692 for detour information.

Provides Dial-A-Ride curb-to-curb service for persons with disabilities living within the urbanized area of Broome County. Applicant must meet eligibility requirements, which include certification by physician or social service agency as having physical, visual, or mental disability that prevents use of regular transit. One-way bus fare: $2.00.
No service on January 1, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas.

Free transportation to and from VA Medical Center in Syracuse, weather permitting, for veterans with a pre-arranged appointment. Must arrive at the VA Outpatient Clinic 15 minutes prior to departure. Bus departing from the VA Clinic at 10 a.m. Mon.- Fri., arriving at Syracuse at approximately noon, departing at 2 p.m. and arriving back at Binghamton at approximately 4 p.m.

Door-to-door transportation on a lift-equipped bus for frail elderly to meet on-going social needs (not able to accommodate medical appointments or shopping). Buses take persons to volunteer opportunities, adult day-care centers, or senior centers on an as-available basis. Registration is required, suggested contribution is $2.00 each way.
