Who we are

Since 1989 Broome County has benefited from a dedicated Partnership of consumers, public, private, nonprofit agencies and faith community members working to improve long term care services. Aging Futures demonstrates a commitment to strengthening Broome County's long term-care system by: engaging seniors, promoting the independence of seniors, empowering caregivers, and supporting a responsive long term care system.

The Aging Futures Partnership was recently awarded grant funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Community Partnership for Older Adults initiative to study the needs of older adults in Broome County. The funding also supported Broome County in developing implementation strategies that ensure that "Our community has systems and supports that promote well being, maximize independence, and minimize functional decline and its effects in the vulnerable elderly population."

The Aging Futures Partnership would also like to thank the Community Foundation for South Central New York for its generous support which has made the development of the online Broome County Elder Services Guide possible.

Action for Older Persons, Inc., a member of the Aging Futures Partnership, is a private, nonprofit, United Way member agency founded in 1967. AOP's mission is to assist adults in enhancing their lives by promoting financial security, physical and emotional well-being, and self-sufficiency throughout their lives. This is achieved through innovative programs and services, education, advocacy, identifying and addressing needs, and community collaboration. AOP is responsible for publishing the Broome County Elder Services Guide, a comprehensive directory of programs and services available to Southern Tier midlife and older adults. A third edition of this popular guide was recently made available to the community and has acted as input to the planning phase of the RWJ Community Partnership's grant as an inventory of aging services. To increase its usefulness and reach, this popular Guide has now been made available in this online version.
